FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Bosses & Enemies: What the Demo Throws at You
Square Enix promoted Gilgamesh with his own video but published no enemy list or stats. Here are the demo fights players recorded, and what is still unverified.

Before asking whether the thing that just wiped you is a boss, accept one thing: Square Enix has published no enemy list, no count and no stats. The only foe the publisher has promoted on his own is Gilgamesh — the official channel gave him a dedicated video on September 15, 2026, and the Japanese site lists him alongside Rain’s group and Bahamut in the Collector’s Edition acrylic bundle. Everything else you can find about enemies comes from players who finished the demo.
One clarification while we are here: Square Enix revealed Sephiroth content the same day the demo launched, but that does not place him in the public Chapter 1 demo, and we do not count preview material as a demo encounter.
The demo fights players recorded
Everything below comes from the public demo. We have not re-verified each encounter and Square Enix has not confirmed it, so there are no HP, attack, level-threshold or drop-rate numbers here. Location clues follow what players wrote, so you can tell which areas you have not covered.
| Encounter | Where players place it | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Ogre / Marauder | A single-room cave on the Chapter 1 map; players say “he just stands in the middle of the cave, he doesn’t spawn” | Players don’t agree on the name — some call it Ogre, some Marauder. Confirm which one you are facing before comparing notes |
| Antlion | The desert overworld | Players describe an unprepared Antlion as a party wipe for an average player; skip it until you have levels |
| Chimera (Dhome Chimera) | The desert near Esper’s Dwelling | Another unprepared-means-death fight; players mention stealing items from it, but the demo has no steal command |
| The Esper fight | Midway through the demo | Several players call it the toughest thing in the demo, harder than the Chapter 1 finale |
| Skuldier | The tree patch outside Kolobos Ruins | A rare skeleton-type enemy with a low chance to drop the Knife of Paralysis; if you cannot find it, you are probably on the wrong side |
| The citrine pot in Siren’s Tower | Siren’s Tower | A one-time enemy with a low Elixir drop. Because it is one-time, save before you engage if you intend to farm it |
| Gilgamesh | Third-party guides say opening the wrong chest in Siren’s Tower triggers him | See the next section |
The demo also has a “secret boss” players keep mentioning, discussed on r/FinalFantasy. Square Enix has not said which encounter that is, so we don’t turn player guesses into conclusions.
Gilgamesh: confirmed vs claimed
Confirmed by Square Enix: Gilgamesh got a dedicated video on the official channel (September 15, 2026) and appears in the Collector’s Edition bundle contents. Those two facts show he is someone the publisher wants to showcase.
Third-party claims only: third-party guides say opening the wrong chest in Siren’s Tower brings out Gilgamesh, who reads your weaknesses aloud, takes the Genji Gloves and leaves — the same guide says outright that “you are not meant to win this one”. Reddit players also post about that chest and those gloves.
No basis, so not published here: Gilgamesh’s HP, recommended level, whether he counts as post-game content, and how he relates to Ultima Weapon. Those details circulate between media headlines and AI summaries with no primary source behind them — a textbook case of a claim that looks like a fact.
One more common mix-up: Gilgamesh is a foe or featured character, not a playable party member, so don’t slot him into party discussions. Who can actually fight is in Characters.
Four things to do before a hard fight
- Fix your stagger breaks first, not your biggest single hit. Most “I can’t beat this” moments are turns where the enemy was never denied an action — mechanics in Combat.
- Save in a separate slot before the encounter. One-time enemies like the citrine pot and chest traps cannot be retried, and the demo has no other recovery route.
- Level your Visions to the demo cap of 5. Which order to do that in is covered in Vision awakening.
- Walk away if it is not working. The Chapter 1 map lets you come back, and the desert Antlion and Chimera are both fine to postpone.
How far the data goes
The full game’s enemy count, bestiary structure and each boss’s final role are unpublished, and demo encounters are not the full-game enemy table. We will add hands-on coverage once the game launches; until then this page answers two questions only — what Square Enix confirmed and what players recorded. No stat tables.
