Espers are powerful summons that fight alongside your party — they are not Visions equipped on characters. Square Enix confirms they join for three turns, then unleash a strong finishing move and leave on the final turn. In battle, treat an Esper as a limited support window, not a permanent extra teammate.

How Espers differ from Visions

The two are easy to confuse, but they work differently: Visions are equipment you use to learn skills and can swap freely; Espers are temporary summon units with a limited number of turns. A party can use a Vision loadout and an Esper at the same time, but don’t collapse both into a single “guest character roster.”

How to unlock them

Official wording says Espers unlock as you progress through the story and complete side quests, but it does not list each Esper’s location, level or cost. Don’t turn that into “every summon requires beating a trial first,” and don’t invent fixed routes for each one.

What is confirmed so far

The official mechanics notes do not verify every summon by name, and no full list or acquisition routes have been published — this page doesn’t guess at unrevealed summons, skills or numbers. Media previews mention trying Siren, Ramuh and others, but preview coverage is not the same as what the public chapter-1 demo offers.

How to check in-game

When you play, confirm the unlock quest, the three-turn duration and the final-turn finishing behavior in the game itself, then compare against the official notes and the current demo scope. Summon costs, quest prerequisites and exact menu paths have no hands-on basis here yet.
